India Vs Australia 1st ODI, Banglore - Match abandoned

Match abandoned due to wet outfield 50 overs Australia 307 for 7 (Clarke 130, Haddin 69, Sreesanth 3-55) v India 9 for 1

Michael Clarke returned to the scene of his triumphant debut and finessed another magnificent century, but rain then played spoilsport in the opening match of the Future Cup. Australia recovered from a Sreesanth-induced wobbly spell to post an imposing 307 for 7 and Mitchell Johnson then sent Sachin Tendulkar packing for a blob before the heavens opened and the prospect of a gripping contest was washed away.

India Vs Australia 1st ODI Banglore, India

Can the Indians repeat their T-20 heroics or will Australia remind everyone who the World Champions are in the 50 overs game?

Even before the euphoria of their Twenty20 World Cup triumph has settled down, India go into the first match of a high-voltage One-day cricket series against Australia here on Saturday with both the champion teams talking tough and promising to fight fire with fire.

India have a new captain who must motivate his team for the first of the dozen ODIs they will play over the next six weeks. Mahendra Singh Dhoni also has to figure out just how much India need to switch gears from their successful Twenty20 approach.

The off-field mind games have set the tone for an enthralling seven-match series which will be a test of character for India's new captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Australia is still smarting from the 15-run semi-final defeat to India in the Twenty20 World Cup and they have revenge on their mind was made obvious by skipper Ricky Ponting, who challenged the hosts to do an encore in the series.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni's young Indian team snatched the inaugural Twenty20 world title after defeating archrivals Pakistan by five runs in a thrilling final on Monday.
The Indians, restricted to 157-5 after electing to take first strike in good batting conditions, fought back to bowl out valiant Pakistan for 152 before a sell-out crowd of 32,000 at the Wanderers.
Pakistan appeared out for the count when they were reduced to 104-7 after 16 overs, but Misbah-ul Haq gave the Indians a scare with a late charge of 43 off 38 balls.

Ten days earlier, India and Pakistan couldn't be separated in Durban. In front of a frenzied crowd at the Wanderers on Monday, they played out perhaps the best final ever seen in a major tournament. Once again, the ice-cool Misbah-ul-Haq threatened to drag Pakistan back from the brink, but the Indians just about held their nerve to clinch a five-run victory and the inaugural ICC World Twenty20.

India 157 for 5 (Gambhir 75, Gul 3-28) beat Pakistan 152 (Misbah-ul-Haq 43, Pathan 3-16, RP Singh 3-23) by 5 runs

20-20 World Cup Finals India Vs Pakistan 05.00 PST

India v Pakistan, ICC World Twenty20 final, Johannesburg

This is a final not many would have imagined, yet it's one nobody can grudge. A trans-Tasman final was a possibility before the semi-finals, but it is difficult to dispute that the tournament has now got the best possible climax: the sub-continental rivalry has the right combination of history, piquancy and edge to add up to a thriller. Let's just hope it doesn't go the way of the World Cup final.

Having conquered much fancied rivals, resurgent India and Pakistan will clash on Monday in a high voltage duel for the title of the inaugural Twenty20 World Cup with not much to lose between the two youthful sides without their ageing stalwarts.

History will say India have the advantage. They have a 6-1 record against Pakistan in world championships including one bowl-out earlier in this tournament. But history counts for little in the middle, and there is little to choose between the teams, and it might just boil down to who can hold their nerve best.

On the way to the final, both teams have inflicted humiliating defeats on ODI and Test champions Australia and roared past other favorites like hosts South Africa, Sri Lanka and New Zealand. Their successes have surprised the pundits but thrilled the sub-continent's cricket-hungry masses still recovering from the inglorious exit of their teams from the ODI World Cup in the West Indies only six months ago.

India (Yuvraj 70, Johnson 2-31) beat Australia (Hayden 62, Sreesanth 2-13) by 15 runs

Throughout this tournament India have never failed to surprise and it was especially manifest today. The full-house at Kingsmead, with half the Indian diaspora in attendance, were given a treat of their lives as India beat Australia by 15 runs in a nail-biting finish. Yuvraj Singh, in line for being voted player of the tournament for his six-balls-six sixes-heroics against England just three days back, came to the party yet again with an effortless 70 that spurred India to a competitive total of 188. Australia, however, demonstrated their mettle, as always rising to the big occasion, with Mathew Hayden giving them a solid start with a powerful 62 and putting them on course for a seemingly comfortable win. Sreesanth was the only Indian bowler who was really penetrative early on and the Australians took advantage of India's lack of a good fifth bowler But the spirited Indians provided a late twist to the tale as their bowlers, especially Harbhajan, RP Singh and Joginder Sharma, bowled immaculately to put Australia out of contention. A young Indian team, aggressive and irreverent in a format of the game where they have had precious little practice prior to this tournament, continue their golden run and now go on to the final at The Wanderers where they meet traditional rival Pakistan in what will be an even more high-voltage clash .

Pakistan 147 for 4 (Nazir 59) beat New Zealand 143 for 8 (Gul 4-15) by six wickets

New Zealand's least-favorite claim to fame is their status as cricket's most reliable semi-finalists. In five of the nine World Cups they have reached that stage of the tournament and gone no further, and that pattern was repeated in the inaugural ICC World Twenty20.

Chasing 144 for a place in the final, a late wobble from Pakistan's middle-order wasn't enough to turn the match back in New Zealand's favor. Imran Nazir led the assault with a 41-ball 59, adding 60 in seven overs with Mohammad Hafeez, before the captain, Shoaib Malik, sealed the match with a six with seven balls remaining.

20-20 World Cup Semi Finals

Here is the schedule for the 20-20 world cup semifinals.

Sat 22 13:00 local, 11:00 GMT 04.00 PST

1st Semi Final - New Zealand v Pakistan Newlands, Cape Town E2 v F1

Sat 22 Floodlit Match18:00 local, 16:00 GMT 09.00 PST

2nd Semi Final - Australia v India Kingsmead, Durban E1 v F2

And so, after the cut and thrust of the last ten days, a tournament that began with 12 teams has been whittled down to four. Pakistan take on New Zealand in Cape Town, but arguably the more mouthwatering contest is in Durban, where India, riding high after two top-class performances against England and South Africa, take on Australia, world champions in all forms of the game, but showing unusual signs of susceptibility in the Twenty20 format.

New Zealand v Pakistan, 1st semi-final, Cape Town

This is a clash of Pakistan flair versus Kiwi functionality. Although New Zealand have again more than held their own, they owe their passage to the semi-finals to India, whose 37-run win against South Africa dumped the home side out on net run-rate and allowed Daniel Vettori's side to sneak in.

Pakistan have reached the last four despite a stuttering display against Bangladesh, playing their typically aggressive cricket under the new coach, Geoff Lawson. Now Saturday's matches offer various mouth-watering permutations for the final: a Trans-Tasman clash, a replay of the 1999 World Cup final or, the ultimate match-up, an India-Pakistan showdown.

Australia v India, 2nd semi-final, Durban

Australia's ten-wicket thrashing of Sri Lanka in a virtual quarter-final on Thursday indicated, though, that they are peaking in time for the big games, a trait the Australians have almost perfected. They'll miss the presence of Ricky Ponting, while Shane Watson has flown home after hurting his hamstring again, but there is firepower in their ranks to make light of those absences.

The advantage for the Indians is familiarity with the conditions. They have played three times under the Kingsmead lights - twice over the last three days - and will know, to a large extent, what to expect from the pitch and the conditions. Australia, on the other hand, have never played in Durban during this tournament, and only one of their five games has been a 6pm start.

Aus Vs Sri, Pak Vs Ban and Ind Vs SA results and highlights.

Australia v Sri Lanka, Group F, Cape Town

Australia 102 for 0 (Hayden 58*, Gilchrist 31* ) beat Sri Lanka 101 (Clark 4-20) by ten wickets

A match billed as a winner-takes-all contest was as good as decided before latecomers had even taken their seats at Newlands. In that time Australia blew away Sri Lanka's top order, and though they made a recovery of sorts to reach 101, it was a dismal performance and Australia strolled to a ten-wicket win with almost half their overs intact. In Twenty20 terms, it was a massacre. At least there were not too many people inside the ground to witness their humiliation.

Bangladesh v Pakistan, Group F, Cape Town

Pakistan 141 for 6 (Afridi 39, Razzak 2-16) beat Bangladesh 140 (Siddique 71) by four wickets

Bangladesh squandered a brilliant start by Junaid Siddique, the 19-year-old debutant who smashed 71 from just 49 balls, and Pakistan were indebted to a blazing innings from Shahid Afridi and a late cameo from Imran Nazir as they went into the semi-finals with a perfect record in the Super Eights. Set 141 for victory, Pakistan eased home with four wickets and six balls to spare, after Bangladesh's slow bowlers induced a mid-innings wobble.

India v South Africa, Group E, Durban

India 153 for 5 (Rohit 50*, Dhoni 45) beat South Africa 116 by 37 runs

A sensational spell of 4 for 13 from Rudra Pratap Singh dumped South Africa out of the Twenty20 party as India romped to a comprehensive 37-run victory that sealed a place in the semi-final against Australia. South Africa, previously unbeaten in the competition, again proved masters of the choke, falling 10 short of the 126 that would have taken them to the last four and eliminated New Zealand.

20-20 WC Tomorrow's games Aus-Sri Pak-Ban Ind-SA

Thu 20 10:00 local, 08:00 GMT  01.00 PST

22nd Match, Group F - Australia v Sri Lanka Newlands, Cape Town B1 v C2

It's sudden death for Australia and Sri Lanka. In a rematch of the World Cup final the winners will move into the semi-finals and the losers will head out of the ICC World Twenty20. The teams come into the crunch match in different states of mind, Australia still struggling to accept the format after losing to Pakistan while Sri Lanka are buoyant after coming through against Bangladesh. Australia have also been hit by the injury to Ricky Ponting, who was ruled out for the rest of the tournament - however long that may be for his team.

Thu 20 10:00 local, 08:00 GMT  01.00 PST

23rd Match, Group F - Bangladesh v Pakistan Newlands, Cape Town A2 v D1

Both Pakistan and Bangladesh come into this match with their immediate future confirmed. While Pakistan savour their progress in the tournament, Bangladesh will be checking-in for a flight back to Dhaka on Friday. Beaten comprehensively by Australia and Sri Lanka in the Super Eights, Bangladesh's joy of upsetting the West Indian wagon earlier was short-lived as rash strokes and poor temperament got the better of their inexperienced batsmen.

Pakistan, however, should barely sweat after resounding wins over the World Cup finalists and few will bet against them not to beat lesser opposition with greater authority and conviction. But, given the extremes that Pakistan experience, a repeat of Bangladesh's victory over its Asian rivals at the 1999 World Cup should not be forgotten no matter how unlikely it seems at the moment.

Thu 20 Floodlit Match18:00 local, 16:00 GMT 09.00 PST

24th Match, Group E - South Africa v India Kingsmead, Durban A1 v D2

Expect a high-voltage clash as India take on South Africa, the hosts, in a match that will decide which two teams will make it to the semi-finals of the ICC World Twenty20. Both teams scored impressive wins on Wednesday - Justin Kemp led South Africa to a target of 154 against New Zealand, while India, powered by an astonishing knock from Yuvraj Singh, amassed 219. The batting line-ups of both teams are power-packed, which suggests a run-fest is on the cards.

India's win against England also means three teams are still in contention for two semi-final slots. New Zealand's net-run rate is currently the least of the three teams, which means if India beat South Africa they will go through. Also, if South Africa lose by a heavy margin, their net run rate could drop below 0.05, which is New Zealand's current NRR. In that case India and New Zealand will make it to the semis. If South Africa win, of course, they'll get through along with New Zealand.

Stay tuned for live links and come back and don't forget today's highlights.

Yuvraj Singh 6 6 6 6 6 6

Yuvraj Singh's savage assault on Stuart Broad made him the first batsman to hit six sixes in an over in Twenty20 internationals and the fourth in senior cricket. Garry Sobers and Ravi Shastri did it in first-class matches, Herschelle Gibbs in the World Cup and now Yuvraj.

England v India, Group E, Durban

India 218 for 4 (Sehwag 68, Yuvraj 58) beat England 200 for 6 (Collingwood 28, Pathan 3-33) by 18 runs

Yuvraj Singh did a Garry Sobers on his way to an astonishing 12-ball half-century as India's batsmen eviscerated the English bowling at Kingsmead. England's response was a hard-hitting one, but with no one able emulate Yuvraj, India held on for an 18-run victory that kept alive their hopes of a place in the semi-finals. Vikram Solanki, Kevin Pietersen and Paul Collingwood tilted at the windmill for a while, but a fine spell from Irfan Pathan ensured that England went home with no wins in the Super Eights.

South Africa v New Zealand, Group E, Durban

South Africa 158 for 4 (Kemp 89*) beat New Zealand 153 for 8 (McMillan 48*, McCullum 38, Morkel 4-17)

A sensational four-wicket burst from Mornè Morkel and a devastating display of power-hitting from Justin Kemp took South Africa to a six-wicket victory over New Zealand, a result that saw England eliminated from the tournament. Both South Africa and New Zealand will take their places in the last four if India lose to England later on Wednesday.

Wed 19 14:00 local, 12:00 GMT 05.00 PST

20th Match, Group E - South Africa v New Zealand  Kingsmead, Durban A1 v C1

South Africa will be looking to depose New Zealand at the top of the table with a victory in this Group E match. Having lost their only international encounter against this opposition almost two years ago, a better performance with the bat is what Graeme Smith will be hoping for especially with his team being restricted to 154 against England. Inclusion of Herschelle Gibbs, fitness permitting, will only benefit the home side in their quest for the final four.

Wed 19 Floodlit Match18:00 local, 16:00 GMT 09.00 PST

21st Match, Group E - England v India Kingsmead, Durban B2 v D2

India can keep alive their hopes of making the World Twenty20 semi-finals with victory over a demoralized England at Durban on Wednesday. They should have won their opening Super Eight match against New Zealand but came unstuck against Daniel Vettori. England are left needing a miracle to qualify after falling away badly against the Kiwis and have been found wanting despite bringing plenty of Twenty20 knowledge with them.

Results & Highlights (09/18/07) Pak-Aus, Sri-Ban and NZ-Eng

Bangladesh v Sri Lanka, Group F, Johannesburg

Sri Lanka 147 for 5 (Mubarak 31*, Jayawardene 30) beat Bangladesh 83 (Vaas 2-14, Jayasuriya 2-4) by 64 runs

Sri Lanka's progress to 147 for 5 was often tortuous and ragged, but the value of perseverance was amply illustrated as the bowlers made short work of Bangladesh on a sluggish pitch where batsmen rarely felt at ease. While it was the slow bowlers that starred for Bangladesh, the fast men did the damage for Sri Lanka, with the new-ball duo of Chaminda Vaas and Dilhara Fernando once again outstanding. The loss pushed Bangladesh out of contention for a semi-final place, and left Sri Lanka needing to beat Australia to progress to the final four.

Pakistan 165 for 4 (Misbah 66*, Malik 52*) beat Australia 164 for 7 (Hussey 37, Tanvir 3-31) by six wickets

A dazzling 119-run partnership between Misbah-ul-Haq and Shoaib Malik, two of Pakistan's batting heroes from earlier in the tournament, inspired a famous six-wicket victory over Australia, a triumph that almost certainly sealed their place in the final four.

New Zealand 164 for 9 (Styris 42, McMillan 57) beat England 159 for 8 (Maddy 50, Bond 2-20, Vettori 2-20) by five runs

"You have to be really thinking on your feet," said Daniel Vettori before this match. New Zealand did just that - recovering from 31 for 4 thanks to the big-hitting best of Scott Styris and Craig McMillan and then throttling England to take the five-run victory and head towards the semi-finals.

Magnificent half-centuries from Shoaib Malik, the captain, and Younis Khan propelled Pakistan to a formidable total and a miserly three-wicket spell from Shahid Afridi then choked the life out of the Sri Lankan chase as they romped to a facile 33-run victory at the Wanderers.

India Vs New Zealand 20-20 World Cup Super Eight Match - Update

New Zealand 190 (McCullum 45, Oram 35) beat India 180 for 9 (Gambhir 51, Sehwag 40, Vettori 4-20) by 10 runs

A masterclass of left-arm bowling from Daniel Vettori allowed New Zealand to soak up the pressure of a flying start by India to the run chase and script a fine 10-run win at the Wanderers.

Australia 124 for 1 (Hayden 73* , Gilchrist 43) beat Bangladesh 123 for 8 (Lee 3-27) by 9 wickets

England require another 98 runs with 7 wickets and 10.3 overs remaining

Stay tuned for highlights.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni has won the toss and India will bowl. India have retained the same XI that won against Pakistan while New Zealand have brought in Jeetan Patel for Chris Martin.

India start off as favorites in their first Super Eights match against New Zealand at the Wanderers: India pulled off a nailbiter against Pakistan courtesy a bowl-out, while New Zealand were drubbed by Sri Lanka. In such a short format, though, momentum counts for little. Both teams will be aware of that, and also of trend of games at this ground. The conditions have been loaded in favour of the batsmen so far, while the team chasing has had much the better of the matches. Win the toss and field will probably be the mantra

India wins the match on a bowl out. They hit thrice and Pakistan missed all their chances and as I said earlier India retain their record of beating Pakistan in all World Cup games. 3-0 India, Sehwag, Utthapa and Harbhajan hit - Arafat and Umar missed

India have nominated Sehwag, Uthappa, Sreesanth, Pathan and Harbhajan. It will be Gul, Tanvir, Arafat, Afridi and Asif for Pakistan.

Pakistan and India have both qualified for the Super Eights.
Pakistan clawed back in the last three overs and the match will now be decided by a bowl out. Each team will nominate five players who will bowl at a set of stumps over 22 yards. Each team will have alternate attempts at hitting the stumps and the team with the most hits wins. it's like a penalty shoot-out in Soccer and going by history India has a chance to retain their record against Pakistan in a World Cup match.

It's a tie and we are going to see bowl outs just like the shoot outs in Soccer. Stay tuned...

Boy, did Agarkar bowl a bad over or what. He is one unpredictable bowler, can take wickets by surprising the batsmen but bowls more than his share of bad deliveries and today he dropped a catch as well. Agarkar gave it away on a silver platter to Pakistan.

What a close finish this game is heading to, India on top after Afridi's wicket.

This is going to be one cracker of a game and I hope it matches the intensity usually seen when these two teams meet each other in a world cup. You do not want to miss this game. Stay tuned for the updates, streaming and links to live streaming sites.

Indian bowlers have done a tremendous job just like the Pakistani bowlers and it looks that India will indeed move forward to the super eights as Pakistan have not scored fast enough to leave India behind Scotland in the net run rate.
It's an exciting game but unfortunately the channel has stopped working and there are no working streaming sites right now. smile_sad

Stay tuned and I will be back with a link to a working site.

Tomorrow's games

After today's disappointing washout of the India Vs Scotland game, tomorrow is a big day for both the teams. Scotland must be praying that Pakistan beat India handsomely so that they go through to the next round. For India this is a Do or die game just like Australia who has to beat England to stay in contention for this world cup. Bangladesh has already sent West Indies packing and you can watch those full highlights in an earlier post. Also don't forget to Bookmark This Site! (Ctrl + D)

India Vs Scotland 20-20 world cup match live streaming links. Update

The match has been abandoned and India and Scotland share the points 1-1 which means that India must beat Pakistan tomorrow or lose by a margin small enough for them to have a better run-rate than Scotland in order to progress to the next round. If tomorrow's game gets washed out as well India and Pakistan will go through to the next round.

C you tomorrow...

Scotland have won the toss and Ryan Watson decided to bowl, but its still raining so the game will start later.

Rain has delayed the match between India and Scotland and wet weather threatens to disrupt India's first game of the World Twenty20. Both teams must bat a minimum of five overs to constitute a match. In case that doesn't happen, both teams will get a point each, and India will need to beat Pakistan to assure themselves of a place in the Super Eight Series. If India lose, net run rates will decide which of India or Scotland qualify. However there will be a bowl-out if the conditions allow it. India start as favorites but that can change for little after the Aus-Zim and Ban-Win results.

I will update the working links when the match starts, in the mean time pray to the rain gods!!
